World Environmental Education Congress 2028 Call for Bids is now open!

The call for bids to host the 14th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC), which will take place in 2028 has officially opened. This global event brings together leaders, experts, and professionals in environmental education, offering a unique platform for sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and advancing the global conversation on environmental sustainability. Deadline 31 December 2024.

Who can apply? The bid is open to public or private organizations involved in environmental education, including universities, associations, foundations, governmental and local bodies. If your organization is interested in hosting this prestigious event, please submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) as soon as possible and complete the official Application Form by 31 December 2024.

Evaluation criteria

Candidatures will be evaluated on several criteria, including:

  • Experience in environmental education and organizing events at local, national, and international levels.
  • Ability to engage diverse institutions and ensure broad international participation.
  • Commitment to sustainability, both in venue selection and overall event planning.
  • Financial stability and ability to mobilize resources to ensure the Congress’s success.
  • Inclusivity measures, such as offering discounts for disadvantaged participants and supporting delegates from developing countries.
  • Cultural diversity through the use of multiple languages and engagement in local field trips and social events.

Important deadlines

Application deadline: 31 December 2024
Decision date: The host city will be announced by 30 April 2025.

The selected host will work closely with the WEEC Permanent Secretariat to design a program that fosters sustainability, cultural exchange, and global collaboration. The Congress is expected to attract over 1,000 participants and provide a lasting impact on the host city’s environmental education landscape.

The official host will be announced during the 13th WEEC in Perth, Australia, in 2026.
