SFIAR Award Ceremony 2021

The Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research (SFIAR) offers an annual Award for graduates and scientists working in agricultural research for development. The two prize-winning researchers will present their work at the Award Ceremony. The event will also put the research into a broader perspective: This year’s award-winning projects both contribute their part to the overarching goal of developing sustainable and inclusive value chains.

This year’s Team Award goes to the team of Amritbir Singh Riar from FiBL for their project ”Green Cotton / Seeding the Green Future”. With this project Amritbir’s team aims to develop and deliver non-GM cotton varieties to Indian farmers who intend to cultivate organic cotton. Access to quality organic seeds adapted to local production conditions is key to meeting the growing demand for organic cotton, as well as the challenges of climate change.

The Award for the best Master’s Thesis goes to Michaela Kuhn for her research “A Gendered Analysis of Small-Scale Cocoa Production in Uganda” conducted at FiBL and submitted at University of Göttingen. The gender gap identified in this case study is important baseline information for the development of future interventions.
