Workshops 2019: Priority topics for research in sustainable development
In the view of experts from science and practice, what are the problem areas on the path to sustainable development that science should address? Where do they think it would be useful to jointly develop new understandings, alternative models of thought and options for action? Where can we build new partnerships together? These questions were discussed in two workshops in 2019:
28 August 2019 at the University of Lausanne
30 August 2019 at the University of Zurich

Conference report: Sustainability Science Forum 2022
On 3 November 2022, key players in the field of science for sustainable development met in Bern at the second Sustainability Science Forum. The event of the SCNAT's Sustainability Research Initiative was dedicated to the future of research in support of sustainability transformations. A particular focus was on the nature of societal transformation processes and on promising forms of collective knowledge production for developing possible pathways of change.

The 1992 Rio Earth Summit set benchmarks for the sustainable development of our planet and resulted in the Agenda 21 and first binding conventions on climate change, biological diversity and desertification. Thirty years later, unsustainable pathways are still being followed and the societal transformation necessary for a sustainable planet is largely lacking. Nevertheless, in light of current crises spanning from climate change and energy shortages to social inequality and biodiversity loss, scientific knowledge and collaboration across disciplines as a basis for concerted action is more relevant than ever.
