This final issue of Dimensions – the magazine of IHDP – focusses on the Human well-being beyond gdp. It is also beyond measurement. While greened national accounts help assess the environmental sustainability of economic performance and growth, sustaining development must be left to politics.
At last year’s Rio+20 summit, one of the main outcomes was a request to develope new indicators that provide a more accurate, holistic picture of a country’s societal progress. This issue of Dimensions provides an overview of the debate and highlight some of the current initiatives underway around the world that may deliver key insights in the movement towards new such indicators.
This is the last issue of 'Dimensions'. The International Human Dimensions of Global Change Program IHDP ceases its operation in June 2014. The core projects will transit to the new program 'Future Earth'.
